Regulation (EU) 2017/1001, to come into force on 1 October 2017, is a codified version of the EU Trademark regulation that includes the changes introduced last year as part of the “European Union trademark reform package”. 	ITALIAN CASE LAW Surname trademarks: new Italian Supreme Court ruling in Fiorucci saga A sign that includes a surname may be registered even though the surname is part of an earlier registered trademark, if it is exploited in accordance with honest practices and does not take unfair advantage of the earlier mark’s distinctive character and renown.
